When to Consider Repair, Replacement or Remanufacture of Sanitary Pump?

When you have to face worn out sanitary pump then your options will be either repairing, remanufacturing, or total replacement. Now which option will be right for you?

Authorized Pump Repair

Your sanitary pumps can always be repaired and then re-installed. However, in certain situations, repair may not be a valid option.

After receiving your defective pump, its sanitary end and the gearcase are properly inspected to decide the total cost of restoring your pump within acceptable specifications or tolerances.

Your cost of repair will always be lower than a factory remanufacturing however this will depend on the pump condition.

Few reasons for repairing your pump include –

  • Very quick turnaround with minimal down time
  • It can be done number of times for extending the life of the pump
  • To reduce the expenditure by postponing need for buying a new pump

Usually, such repair work is quite extensive, which may involve complete servicing of the equipment so that it can function like a new one.

Factory Remanufactured

You can use this option maximum of 2 times. As you ship the pump to factory, you will get a different one which has been totally remanufactured.

The remanufacturing process may involve:

  • Inspection and replacement of all parts in gearcase with genuine parts as needed.
  • Proper checking about the clearances in sanitary end and also milling the body by .030 or .060 to create new-like surfaces
  • By installing oversized rotors which fit in re-machined body

Due to oversizing process, all parts of any remanufactured sanitary pump will be a matched set. They will not be assembled by using parts from any other new or certain remanufactured pumps. This remanufactured pump will be backed by new pump warranty.

New Replacement of Sanitary Pump

In case, pump wearing out can be fixed by without milling its cover or body, in that case pump can always be successfully repaired. However, if wearing of the pump body or cover prevents it from working as required then one should consider remanufacturing.

Buying a new pump will never be an economical option, particularly if pump can be properly repaired or remanufactured.

However, if the pump has already been factory remanufactured more than twice, and its wear out of cover and body will not allow pump to operate with acceptable performance level, then it is time you must buy a new one.

Also, bear in mind, the extent of clearance or wear within the sanitary pump will depend on your specific application. Always you must consult any professional to decide the best action whether to go for repairing, remanufacturing, or replacing the pump.
